COURSE OVERVIEW
This course investigates one of the seminal decades in modern American history. In this ten-year period, events and movements of particular importance occurred which continue to impact in contemporary life. Some of the topics to be examined include the civil rights movement, the assassinations of several prominent leaders, the moon landing, the Vietnam War and the new significance of popular culture in American life.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
- To explore and master a broad body of historical knowledge from American History in the 1960s.
- To develop historical analytical skills needed to critically assess important events and periods in 1960s American history.
- Effectively use primary source materials in historical writing and analysis.
REQUIREMENTS
- EFFORT (Since this is a college level course is it vitally important to maintain a positive attitude and do the work.)
- Note taking (At this level you should not have to be told to take notes either from class discussion or assigned reading.)
- READ (This requires self-discipline. When a reading is assigned it needs to be completely read by the assigned date. NO EXCUSES.
- Be Responsible When you are absent it is your duty to get the notes, assignments or materials you missed and make up the missed tests and quizzes and hand any materials/work that was not handed in due to your class absence. Also, for major work like essays and projects if you miss my class but are in school that day the work is considered late. I will not track you down to make up work. Assignments/quizzes/tests not made up will become zeros.
- Lateness is not Acceptable (All work needs to be completed by the assigned date.)
- Participate in class (Do not sit in the stands and watch.)
- DO NOT USE YOUR CELLPHONES IN CLASS!! (Use of your cell phone in and during class will negatively affect your grade.)
- MacBook rules apply!

- Blue or Black pens (NO work will be accepted in pencil)
COURSE GRADE
Your grade will be calculated on the following factors:
- Class Participation/Attendance/class work/HW 50%
- Projects/Essays/Test/Quiz 50%
**Your grade for the year will be based on the following : 40% First marking Period
NO EXTRA CREDIT 40% Second marking Period
20% Final exam
